I‘ve always been a big fan of Sandra Nurmsalu from the days she was thrust upon the European stage at Eurovision 2009 with Urban Symphony. Nurmsalu is a soloist from Estonia, a country located on the Baltic Sea in Northern Europe, bordered by Latvia and Russia. Estonia is an fascinating country with a diverse history of rulers from Denmark to Sweden to the Soviet Union, and endued the horror and devastation of WWII. Modern day Estonia is an educated, technologically advanced, and wealthy country displaying the resilience, strength, and patriotism of “Small Estonia.” Sandra Nurmsalu’s “Väike Eestima“ captures this pride in her voice that in my opinion transcends language, culture, and geographical barriers.
